Support of SNMP parameters was not compiled in

    Hi,

I have installed zabbix-1.6.4 in solaris based on the http://jacksonstrong.blogspot.com/20...n-solaris.html

Everything went smooth. when I configure any snmp enabled device I am getting an error like "Not supported" in status and "Support of SNMP parameters was not compiled in" in Error column of items.

When I restart the server I found in log as...

4469:20090515:142536 server #1 started [Poller. SNMP: NO]
4470:20090515:142536 server #2 started [Poller. SNMP: NO]

      Timeout while connecting to [IP]

Thanks for your swift response Mr.Ken.

I reconfigured zabbix-1.6.4 now. I have added one host and in Items i configured snmpv2agent. but I found things like Availability - Not Available and Error - Timeout while connecting to [IP] in hosts. I went through the forums but dint find solution yet. Please help me on this.

      Thanks in advance,
      Vijaya. R

Does that mean you now see this in your zabbix_server.log:

4469:20090515:142536 server #1 started [Poller. SNMP: YES]
4470:20090515:142536 server #2 started [Poller. SNMP: YES]
4471:20090515:142536 server #3 started [Poller. SNMP: YES]
4472:20090515:142536 server #4 started [Poller. SNMP: YES]
4473:20090515:142536 server #5 started [Poller. SNMP: YES]

Next, is snmp enabled on the host to be monitored? If it is a Cisco device you would need something like this:

        snmp-server community public RO

Next, is the snmp community name correct? If you are using a different community name you need to change the community name on the Template --> Items screen.

Finally, is there a firewall between Zabbix and your host?

As we are getting response through command /snmpwalk -v 2c -c

I dont think there is any firewall inbetween host and Zabbix server.

          Regards,

Now I am confused!! jagannath you start one thread, then vijaya.r85 starts another thread about exactly the same problem. Then jagannath moves across to this thread. What is going on here?

Q1. Are jagannath and vijaya.r85 working together on one problem? Or are there two separate people with two unrelated problems?

Q2. Is zabbix configured with netsnmp? Are you sure? How do you know for sure?

Please note that being able to snmpwalk only means that 'the server' has snmp installed, it does not mean that zabbix is configured with snmp.

We both are working on the same issue.

              We have compiled

              ./configure --prefix=/export/home/zabbix/server --enable-server --enable-agent --with-mysql --with-net-snmp=/opt/coolstack/bin/net-snmp-config --with-libcurl=/opt/curl/bin/curl-config

              in ps -eaf | snmp

              root 655 1 0 May 14 ? 0:00 /usr/lib/dmi/snmpXdmid -s nms
              root 616 1 0 May 14 ? 0:37 /usr/sfw/sbin/snmpd

              root 6291 4958 0 11:44:23 pts/3 0:00 grep snmp

Now the eror refletc while restarting the zabbix serve

              6193:20090518:113858 SNMP monitoring: YES
              6193:20090518:113858 WEB monitoring: NO

OK that looks to be good.

Have you corrected the Timeout problem that you mentioned in the other thread?

Is the item configured with the correct snmp community name?

Can you give me the following information from the Item config:
                SNMP OID
                SNMP port
                Key
                Type of information
                Units

Also, can you post any error messages that you are now receiving.

Web monitoring No and timeout while connecting

Mrken, Thanks a lot for the detailed info. I have checked all those you have mentioned and there is no problem in those. I am getting the web monitoring No in my server log and also for host with snmp, timeout while connecting.

In forums it has mentioned that web monitoring = No, mite be due to curl installation problem. But I have installed curl and curl -v also works.

I don't know where it is getting struck... please help me on this.

                  Awaiting for your response

                  Thanks,
                  Vijaya

Please note that I am not an employee of Zabbix, nor do I provide a free Zabbix Helpdesk.

You guys would be more helpful if you answered the questions asked, provided the information requested and stopped changing the topic from 'Support of snmp parameters not compiled in', to 'Timeout while connecting', to 'Web monitoring', to ....

I really don't know what the topic is anymore. Have any of your problems been resolved? I don't know because you don't answer the questions.

That said - On this link http://jacksonjstrong.blogspot.com/2...aris_2022.html

he says: The 1.1 version of Coolstack didn't have the new enough version of curl for zabbix.
                    # cd /var/tmp
                    # gunzip curl-7.16.2.tar.gz
                    # tar xf curl-7.16.2
                    # cd curl-7.16.2
                    # ./configure --prefix=/opt/curl --without-ssl
                    # make
                    # make install

But I don't know because I don't use Solaris, and also you say "curl -v" works but you don't post the output!

In my initial install I had to install curl and curl-devel, so maybe you need to manually install that as well.

                    Good luck

                        Your item configuration is wrong!

You should be able to snmpwalk the OID and the key and get the same result.

                        [root@zabbix ]# snmpwalk -v2c -c public xxx.xxx.xx.xx 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.57.0
                        OLD-CISCO-SYSTEM-MIB::lsystem.57.0 = INTEGER: 16

                        [root@zabbix ]# snmpwalk -v2c -c public xxx.xxx.xx.xx system.cpu.switches
                        2009-05-18 15:30:44 system.cpu.switches: Unknown Object Identifier (Sub-id not found: system -> cpu)

Now if we change the key to 'lsystem.57.0' look what we get:

                        [root@zabbix ]# snmpwalk -v2c -c public xxx.xxx.xx.xx lsystem.57.0
                        OLD-CISCO-SYSTEM-MIB::lsystem.57.0 = INTEGER: 16

                        Another example:

                        snmpwalk this OID - .1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0

                        now snmpwalk this - sysUpTimeInstance

Hopefully that will solve one of your problems.

                        MrKen

Have another look at what I did, then have a look at what you did.

You don't have the OLD-CISCO-SYSTEM-MIB installed, so you get a different result.

                            From You
                            root@zabbix # snmpwalk -v 2c -c public123 10.0.0.1 1.3.6.1.4.1.9.2.1.57.0
                            SNMPv2-SMI::enterprises.9.2.1.57.0 = INTEGER: 8

                            The 'key' here is 'enterprises.9.2.1.57.0'

                            Try this: snmpwalk -v 2c -c public123 10.0.0.1 enterprises.9.2.1.57.0

                            See how easy it is.
