    Zabbix on a Blackberry

Have any of you tried to get to your Zabbix server via a Blackberry? I've been trying it and got it to log in but none of the links are clickable. When I get in, I can't click any of the links across the top (Monitoring, Configuration, etc.), the only thing I can click is Help, Print, etc. at the top and the zabbix.com link at the very bottom.

Has anybody used Zabbix from a Blackberry?

    Thanks,
    Kerry

This is the biggest problem with the new Ajaxy interface. The same would likely be true for the data navigation controls. There should either be a "Zabbix lite" interface which uses the BARE minimum of Javascript or the ability to bring back the 1.4 interface which, while it was quirky, worked pretty well on mobile devices.

Bottom line... If you MUST use Zabbix on a mobile device then 1.4 is likely your platform unless you don't mind investing in a newer mobile device that handles Ajax well.

Would it be possible to have a 1.4 and 1.6 interface reading the same backend DB? You could possibly give the 1.4 interface a read-only MySQL username.

What information you would like to have available in the "lite" interface?

          Alexei,

I think this "Zabbix Lite" idea would be great! As a starting point for the discussion, I'd like to at least have a static dashboard with an indicator of what's down. I don't need a mouseover like the dashboard has now, just a list of what is down. If I could get a list of devices that are down (ie: firing a trigger) I think that would get me about 90% of what I need. If I get a call that something isn't working and I could look with my Blackberry at Zabbix to see if a router was down I'd be a happy camper. I could do this with our old system and it was very handy, but the old system was a piece of junk compared to Zabbix so it was a good compromise!

So, instead of a dashboard with numbers under each heading, a list of problem devices would be nice.

          Thanks,
          Kerry

I think a Zabbix lite interface for my iPhone would be great. Its hard to navigate the current one. Usually I need information from "latest data" when using the iPhone interface because I received an alert about something.

This talk of different web interfaces is worrying me! There must be a way to make a single web interface, that degrades gracefully by screen resolution and in the absence of various features like CSS and Javascript, or whatever other parameters that differentiate different browsing platforms.

Hard to navigate on the iPhone? My BB won't even let me click the link... :-(

I don't know about the interface downgrading itself, I know it should be able to read what kind of browser you're using but I'd be happy with just a "mobile" link like some other web sites use. I don't need a lot of info, just a list of what is down, even just plain text would be fine. I'm not a web guy so there's probably a better way to do it but it sure would be nice to have...just wishing!

I think www.weatherunderground.com uses a mobile link like that, I know others do too but I can't remember any off the top of my head.

                  Tnx,
                  Kerry

                    iphone

A small (and fast) interface would be very nice for the iphone. Just
a startpage showing the current triggers would be a nice start.

A very good example of a full page and a page for mobile (belgian newspaper):
                    Full: http://www.standaard.be/
                    Mobile: http://m.standaard.be/

If someone tried to skin the php interface for iphone usage, would that be accepted into the project?

I'd want to focus on the graphs, which aren't really usable on the current interface. Have an iPhone skin for the entire thing would be great, and have it work much better - but at least fixing the items that don't work well would be a good start. (Graphs issue are the scrollbar at the bottom - you can't grab one side or another to move them.)

                        not just iphone

I have a sidekick and find it impossible to navigate the zabbix webpage. A mobile friendly dashboard would be the best option I think. Something stripped down to the most basic functionality.

After using it for a while, I think maybe just a mobile-friendly version of the triggers page would work. At least it would tell me what is down, that's really all I need. The problem is that I can't even get that far with the Blackberry because I can't click the links. I guess I could set up a separate acct that redirects to that page but I think last time I tried it I couldn't even log in.

I can't try myself, but I can succesfully access my Roundcube Ajax interface at home using Opera Mini on my BB. Maybe it is better suited for the UI of Zabbix.

One thing I'll say, if you set up Jabber notifications, and then use the BeejiveIM Blackberry Client, it's very sweet. You can set up ID's on jabber.org for free, and the out-of-the-box Jabber support actually works.

The BeejiveIM client is not freeware but it's one of the most well thought out BB apps I've ever used.
