send email with zabbix

I installed zabbix 1.6.4. on Ubuntu 8.10
I can't get email notification.
I configure:
- user admin with RW permission on all host
- a media type email with a smtp
- an action
- tigger are activate

Please help me.
is it necessary to install postfix before have notification?

It's not necessary to have postfix installed in order to send email. Check to see if sendmail is installed and running:

ps aux | grep sendmail

If it's there try to send an email via CLI:

mail -s "Test Message" [email protected]

You can also tail the logs to see if there are mail errors:

tail -f /var/log/maillog

You can also look in

/var/spool/mail/root for bounces etc.

I'm not sure if the paths are the same in Ubuntu (I use CentOS) but will likely be similar.

You can try verify is you have some data in 'Admin' -> 'Notifications'.
