Monitor proxies ?

I have a bunch of proxies with hosts in each of them. I've been monitoring the hosts, but if the proxy goes down, the hosts never report anything in, and they'r shown on the dashboard as being online.

Is there a way I can monitor proxies themselves and have them show up in the "disasters" area in the dashboard ? i.e. use triggers and alerts with proxies instead of hosts ?

Sure, availability of proxies can be monitored as well!

There is an internal item called zabbix[proxy,"Proxy name",lastaccess], which returns time when proxy sent information or a heartbeat message last time. It can be used along with trigger function fuzzytime() for a proxy availability trigger.

An item can only belong to a host.

A proxy won't have a host. How can I create an item for the proxy then ? I found this old post by you:

{host:zabbix[proxy,"Proxy name",lastaccess].fuzzytime(300)}=0

The problem is, I'm not sure what goes in the "host" ??

Any host. You may create a special "dummy" host for internal statistics.
