Mass Update of linked templates loses historical data

I have 20 hosts which have two templates linked to them:
Template_Linux
Template_Memcached

We've recently moved Memcached off of these servers.
So we need to remove the Memcached template.

I tried a mass update on our staging hosts and just added Template_Linux.
When I look at the CPU Load graph on any of these hosts they're now blank.

We can't lose historical data just because we want to remove one of the linked templates.

How do I accomplish this without losing the data?

Through template linkage page. Configuration->hosts->Template linkage.
