new install questions

i have our zabbix server installed and i am able to login into the web interface but having a few issues

Issue #1
Parameter Value Details
ZABBIX server is running No -

Issue #2
the scans are not running i have tried to setup icmp pings and nonthing is displaying

This is prob something silly that i am doing on my end, We are using the latest version of ubuntu server with all the updates applied

It seems that a couple of us are having similar issues with ubuntu and zabbix.

refer to my thread here:

see if there is a /var/run/zabbix-server directory, if not create one:
mkdir /var/run/zabbix-server
chown zabbix:zabbix /var/run/zabbix-server

then try to start zabbix-server:
/etc.init.d/zabbix-server start

see if it runs after that and you get a "yes"

the problem im having is that the zabbix-server directory gets delete upon reboot and you have to do that every time you reboot the machine.

i have reinstalled ubuntu x64 9.04 and still cant get the "Zabbix server running =no" to change

Is there anything else i can try? i think i have doubled check all my work

how did you install zabbix? apt-get or source?
if apt-get, people are recommending that you do it from source.
I havnt tried it yet, but its next on my list.
