    proxy problem

    Hi

    Here is my set up

    Zabbix--->Firewall---->Poxy ---> Windows server

    ------------------------------------------------------
When Windows server fails , Proxy logs
13592:20090829:163939 Item [backupbilling:agent.ping] error: Get value from agent failed: *** Cannot connect to [192.168.3.250]:10050 [Interrupted system call]
    ------------------------------------------------------

But I do not get any alarm in Zabbix server about Host availability. Is this normal behavior?

    Am I missing anything?

    Please help.

forget about alarms. start with basics by verifying that item works.
do you get data from that item ? (monitoring -> latest data).

      Proxy works.

Yes, I can see latest data.

Proxy is doing it's job of passing data across firewall, Problem only comes when proxy times to connect to monitored server.

My understanding is, it should show up Alarm, but Zabbix does not report any alarm.

      Is that normal?

        Graph

        I have attached a graph.

You can see there is clear gap when box is not reachable, but at that time three is no trigger. Last value is always 1 , proxy does not report timeout.

What should I look for next?

        Thanks in advance.

Is this normal behavior when used with proxy?

your logs showed agent.ping item being used. as far as i remember, this item either provides data, or not - if it's 1, agent is responding, if it's missing data, agent is not responding. use nodata() trigger function together with this item.

              Host.status

              Rich,

              Thanks for very informative reply.

I am using default Windows Template , and it has "status.last(0)}=2", but when using proxy looks like host.status is never updated, and looks even if current status = 2 ( unrechable) I dont see any active trigger in "dashboard".

Is this normal behavior? or I am missing something?

              Thanks in advance.

a-ha, that you didn't tell before. yes, special item "status" is not passed from proxy to zabbix server - you will have to use agent.ping.nodata(900)}=1 or something similar - consult manual for details.

                  That makes sense.

                  That makes sense now.

                  Thanks a lot.
