    SNMP configuration

    Hello,
I'd need some hints in order to understand a couple of things about snmp in zabbix.

I configured a host according to documentation procedure (assigning router IP and PORT 161).

Then I defined a item template that I assigned to the host previously created.
Item type is SNMPv1 Agent. The other parameters are correct: community id, OID, etc.. come from snmpwalk/snmpget check.

Now: where should I see data coming from snmp device? in latest data I can't find anything. Do I miss something?

    Thank you

    Manfredi

The short answer is that you should see the data in Latest Data!

Just to be sure, try this, a common and useful OID for testing.

snmpwalk -v1 -c public localhost 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0 [Change localhost to DeviceIP]
    DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (25449704) 2 days, 22:41:37.04

    Now this:
snmpwalk -v1 -c public localhost sysUpTimeInstance
    DISMAN-EVENT-MIB::sysUpTimeInstance = Timeticks: (25451587) 2 days, 22:41:55.87

The result should be the same.

Now set up an item in Zabbix using that info:

    Description: System Uptime
    Type: SNMPv1 agent
SNMP community: public [Yours may be different]
    SNMP OID: 1.3.6.1.2.1.1.3.0
    SNMP port: 161
    Key: sysUpTimeInstance
    Type of information: Numeric (float)
    Units: uptime
    Use multiplier: Custom multiplier
    Custom multiplier: 0.01
The rest is up to you.

Save that, make sure that your item and host are 'Active'. Wait 30 seconds, then check in Latest Data.

    OMG, there's no data!
    1. Check the zabbix_server.log for errors.
    2. Is Zabbix configured --with-net-snmp?

      Yes!

      Thank you MrKen.
Everything was alright, but I missed two things:

      1. Documentation says to set to "Not Monitored" SNMP Device host, so I did. But if I set host to "Not Monitored", you will never see items in Latest Data section.

      2. Host "Connect to" was set to "DNS" instead of "iP address", and I configured IP only.

Do you know if there is any way to cross item checks in a trigger?
I mean: I've got values coming from routers (snmp) and other from workstations (agent). They're separated host, but I'd need to cross both the informations for some triggers.

      THank you

Do you mean, can one trigger reference 2 hosts?

Never tried it myself, but seems that it is possible. Have a look at example number #5 here http://www.zabbix.com/doku/doku.php?id=wiki:triggers
