    Installation Questions

    Hello,

I am not proficient with Linux, so it makes the Zabbix installer guide tough to follow. I want to test this application against Nagios (which was easy to install); I suspect Zabbix is more in line with our needs -- which is why I am eager to get it running. My test OS is the latest version of Ubuntu Desktop. I think after my initial questions are answered, I can follow the rest of the installation guide.

    Questions:
    1. Under software requirements, several database types are listed. Which one is the better choice?
    2. The remaining requirements in section 2.4.1 are confusing:
    • Net-SNMP
    • Iksemel Library and header files
    • Libcurl library and header files
    • C Compiler
    • GNU Make

Where do I get these files, choose the right version and install them? Same goes for the database? I went to MySQL and got lost in their lengthy list of choices.

What would help is someone <in simple terms> help me get through section 2.4.1 procedurally so I can begin installing Zabbix.

    Thanks in advance,

    Jeff

I would understand if you were trying to install it on RedHat + ORACLE but there are an awful lot of online tutorials for the system you described:

    or on our beloved forum:

      Thank you for your reply.

My issue is understanding the various terms on the dependencies list AND where to get them (specific URL).

Yes, there may be many online tutorials -- which I always try to read before posting -- but this time, I need to get the software installed asap. Working against me is my lack of experience with Linux.

I'm just looking for someone to help me get through section 2.4.1. I can probably handle the rest of the installation if the documentation is version-accurate.

        Hi, Jeffk
You are lucky that you had choose Ubuntu as OS! just like zabbix_zen has said, "apt-get" command in Ubuntu will help you out of the situation!

If you missing some packages or libs, just issue the command:

        apt-get install package-name

Ubuntu will search the package and relevant dependencies and install them automatically.
