    item SNMPv2 update interval

    Hi,

I'm trying to monitor a Cisco 2960-48TT switch with SNMP running Zabbix 1.6.5 on Debian Lenny.
I've created an SNMPv2 item FastEthernet0/48-OUT with an interval of 5 secs (see attached screenshot), but when looking at the latest data I get the values below. The time frame between the different values is approx 35s, so the update interval of 5 secs is not working?

I can't imagine why anyone would want to update every 5 seconds. Most people update switch ports every 1, 2, 3, or 5 minutes. Of course, 5 seconds will give you some very nice graphs, but the down side is your database is going to fill up very quickly! (Take some time to calculate how many values are going into your db every day).

The reliability of the update interval will be influenced by how many items you are monitoring. If you are monitoring many items, or monitoring lots of items every 5 seconds, then you probably need to increase the number of Pollers in your zabbix.server.conf

Disclaimer: All of the above is pure speculation.

It wasn't my intention to monitor every port that often, just one port.
And indeed by increasing the number of pollers I'm able to poll the port every 5 secs.
      Thanks for the help.
