Syslog and Zabbix

All,

I see that Zabbix can take SNMP Traps but I assume that native Syslog server functions are not in Zabbix.

Has anyone used an open source syslog solution to use along side of Zabbix? What open source syslog package is good and have you made any custom hooks into Zabbix?

We have a central syslog server (kiwi syslogd).

All syslog messages are forwarded as snmptraps to zabbix and processed by snmptrapd.sh. You may have to tweak a bit to get the snmptraps into zabbix with the snmptrap.sh script.
If you get the messages in zabbix, you can make triggers to alert you on certain kind of messages.

We also forward all syslog messages from kiwi to php-syslog-ng to do easy querying in the syslog messages.
