Monitoring multiple processes with same name

    All,

I have a script that allows me to get the following output from a windows machines currently running processes:

process pid start time cpu usage mem usage

    myproc 1234 10/19/09 22:33:44 50% 500MB
    myproc 5678 10/20/09 22:22:22 15% 70MB
    myproc 9101 10/20/09 22:22:22 2% 90MB
    .
    .
. *can be an 0-infinite number of these processes running at any given time*

As you can see, the only way to uniquely identify a process is by the combination of process-pid-startTime....

I would like to track the usage of resources by each of these processes over time from zabbix... the issue is that the item being monitored for a given host will be unique for every process in order to grab that processes information through the PROCESSES lifetime... so i'm curious how one might go about doing that?

    Thoughts?

so basically you would be creating new items all the time ?
well... not that easy. for 1.8 _maybe_ using zabcon (cli tool) with custom scripts to create item as soon as new process is created will be possible.
still, i'd be afraid of having huge amount of items in the end.

Yeah, I know, item "spread" is my concern too... The issue is, if I want to be able to historically track per process statistics this is the only way I can think of doing it...

I'm thinking I'll just do averaging for now (until the tech catches up to the idea, kinda thing)...

Am open to other ways I might be able to accomplish this though... I would only need exact history for a short period (maybe 30 days) after that avg would be fine...

      Appreciate the thoughts
