Zabbix as a stable monitoring solution

Hello together,

i have the challenge to integrate a new monitoring solution. The network consists of about 20 Servers, VMWare esxi and esx systems and a few network compnents router switches and so on.

I have tested the zabbix environment last year and I was very impressed with the system´s possibilities.

The only bad thing was the update cycle. I had a few problems with the zabbix server and clients relied on very fast software developement and very short release cycles. A few bugs in the stable version weakend the overall positiv impression.
These bugs in the stable version prevented me from integrating zabbix in a real network infrastructure.

Therefor I have a few questions:
1.Has the quality management improved?
2.Should I wait for Version 1.8?
3.Can I choose zabbix as a future-prooved monitoring solution?

If your main goal is stability, I'd not wait for 1.8, as that will most likely have issues. I'm running 1.6.4 and not having any type of stability issues. I will most likely not load 1.8 into production until 1.8.1 comes out. This practice is fairly standard at my company.

I'd also go for Zabbix 1.6.6 for stability
Besides you'll be so overwhelmed exploring all it's capabilites during the first month, it would be a chance for you to have a stable learning curve and upgrading to Zabbix 1.8 afterwards

I will check the requirements and I will setup the server system to monitor a very small environment before the roll out.
