difference between check_service and net ?

I see there are two ways the agent is checking the web server...

check_service[http]

net[listen_80]

My question... is there a difference??

good question! I don't know.

I was wondering what exactly check_service did myself though as I have a machine that continually fails this for ssh even though it's active and running.
