How to monitor a web site reponse time ?

    Hello
I am quite beginner with Zabbix and managed to monitor standard server parameters.
I did not find the way to measure the response time of my web site : just calling on a regular base the website address (htpp:// ...) and getting the response time in msceconds

    Thanks for your advice

Web Monitoring, including 'Response time', is covered fairly clearly in the Zabbix manual Section 11, P.164.

Disclaimer: All of the above is pure speculation.

for 1.8 it is Section 9.
I do have one question to push this a little further. I need to monitor a Flash website and I honestly do not know what to put in the required field as there is no straight posix data.

With respect, I don't think it is clear unless you have a much better knowledge of Zabbix than I do. Documentation isn't much use if its only clear to people who understand the product. But anyway...

I have Zabbix 1.8.5 set up and monitoring the Linux server on which it runs (using the agent), but what I want from it is remote monitoring of websites.

It is not clear to me from the documentation (http://www.zabbix.com/documentation/...web_monitoring) how to use Zabbix to montor a website (although the docs / website seem to suggest it can).

A simple worked example (e.g. just to monitor availability of a web page) would help a lot, so if there is one I would very much appreciate a reference.

I don't think the settings for Host are clear - they don't appear to cover hosts that aren't running agents - or if they do it isn't clear how to set them up, or what the practice is for setting up non-agent hosts. I have tried setting up a simple website as a host and it appears from the HOSTS listing not to be working.

I'm guessing (for there are no tooltips to tell me precisely what this means) that the greyed out 'Z' under 'Availability', in contrast to the green 'Z' for my zabbix server, means I either don't have it set-up correctly for a web host (no zabbix agent) or there is some other way to monitor web hosts, or this is not supported?

If someone who does know zabbix can help me here I'd appreciate it. I'm not a dummy - I have used (er built) Unix and web systems for years, but would like to get some basic monitoring in place for evaluation without having to give myself an in depth course in zabbix at this point.

        Thanks,

        Mark

Seems I guessed incorrectly as it is in fact working! In spite of not realising it, I have successfully set zabbix up to monitor the response time and data rate for accessing a specific page on one of my websites.

To discover this I went into Monitoring > Web, expanded the "TestApp" I created and clicked on the name I had given it for this server step "test app name". Note the confusion in my naming - induced by the lack of hints in the zabbix UI as to what these settings are for. Anyway, this presented me with two graphs, showing the data rate and response times since I set this up.

What the green/grey 'Z' means under 'Availability' (see quote) I can only guess: availability of a zabbix agent? If so, a better term would be "Feature" or "Capabilities" since Availability implies of the Host, rather than an aspect of zabbix capability.

          Best,
