Is zabbix an enterprise-class monitoring solution?

    Hi,

Why am I asking? I've been trying to build hierarchy template's system and I've failed.

I have a group of hosts, about 3-12 in each group. I would like to prepare base template with simple test (cpu, disk etc.), then for every group prepare custom template.

First of all I can not add templates with the same item to the group hosts, I get an error (double items etc.). Why I want to add template with the same items? Because I would like to overlay some base template items with custom one. For example change the trigger level for cpu load, overlay and disable some items but only in one group. If I made changes to the base template I'd change behaviour for all machines.

The most irritating parts is that I can't overlay one items with new one from group custom template. For that reason it's not a scale aware solution. I will have to made custom base template for every host group with the 90% the same items.

    Best regards,
    e.

You could use Global and Host-, Template-level macros in order to have ability to overwrite some data on other levels: item keys, trigger thresholds, etc. For example, you may have one template Template_Unix with default value for maximum CPU load, but the value could be overwritten for hosts or groups of hosts.

This functionality will be available in Zabbix 1.8, which will be released next Monday.

You may find more details here: http://www.zabbix.com/documentation/...t_level_macros

The key question is when 1.8 will be stable version? Or am I missing sth and from the next Monday we will have new stable version of 1.8?

      Best regards,
      e.

Yes, we are releasing Zabbix 1.8 next Monday, December 7th.

I've checked new features in 1.8 and still I am missing sth.

How to disable some tests for a whole one group? In details I have general template for several group and I'd like to disable items only in one group, by not by clicking every host. I'd like to do it on the host group level.

          Best regards,
          e.

You have to filter items by the host group, select all list and do mass-update. Actually it is just a matter of a few mouse-clicks.

Okay, that seems fair. But what with arguments to the disc check. Would I be able to bind base template and by the use of macros change the name of filesystem/path (from original /opt/ to /opt/foo).

              Best regards,
              e.

Absolutely, it is one of the major reasons why we have the global/host/template macros!

Which Monday are talking about? 2009-12-07 or 2009-12-14?
