    setting up link status on zabbix 1.8?

    I've only been using zabbix for a few weeks (great tool). I'd like to setup link status / speed on the network, however not sure how to do this? I take it the routers / switches need to have snmp enabled?

    How do you go about setting the links up then, is there any procedures for this? would also be interested to know how to change the colour of a link if it fails? what type of trigger would you use.

    Apologies for the newbie questions

    Thanks

    William

    Also How to monitor an IP address for up/down status? is there a walkthrough somewhere?

    In a map when a host turns red (I configured advanced icon usage) due to a problem. But afterwards when the problem vanishes and the host is available, the map does not update the status even after acknowledging the events/triggers. How to get the icon back to normal status?

      There're a few ways to monitor up/down status for interface:
      - check via SNMP query (e.g. IF-MIB::ifAdminStatus.1 and IF-MIB::ifOperStatus.1)
      - check with icmpping (from Zabbix Simple checks)
      - check with external check (if icmpping is not enough)

      You may have a look on items in Templates section.

        Thanks for your prompt reply.

        I am using templates for Known hosts like Linux, Mysql etc.

        But I could not figure out 2 things:

        1. I just have an IP (remote location) which can be pinged and I just want to know if it is up or no and there seems to be no walkthru on that.

        2. (Slightly OT) I wanted to know when and how the "OK" status can be restored, say if I pullout the net cable on the monitored device: Zabbix shows down status (Red) with but somehow I could not get the OK status even after acknowledging the problems.

        Any help is appreciated.

        Thanks and Regards,
