Server and agent version mismatch

I have quick question about using 1.6.x agents with 1.8 zabbix server. Is this supported? Will a version 1.8 server work if some of the agents are still at version 1.6.x?

I searched the forums and I didn't find an answer.

From the 1.8 documentation:

5.3. Version compatibility. Older agents from Zabbix 1.0, Zabbix 1.1.x, Zabbix 1.4.x and Zabbix 1.6.x can be used with Zabbix 1.8. It does not require any configuration changes on agent side.

Older Zabbix proxies of version 1.6.x can't be used with Zabbix 1.8, they should be upgraded.

Higher agent version than server version

I was facing problema getting the network interfaces discovering feature working with the last linux servers installed.

After digging a bit I found a different versions:
Server : v2.2.3
Clients : v2.4.0

After downgrading clients and letting the network discovering start after a few minutes, all three client servers started monitoring network interfaces.

Maybe someone has done this mistake and this could be helpful.
