Check if IP is pingable

I am in need of a simple check that just pings an ip address and will alert if it is down. I have done some searching around here and can't quite figure out how. I am on 1.8. What I have done so far is to set up a generic host, set up a trigger trying both icmpping and admin.ping. Neither seem to function the way I want. Any suggestions?

icmpping is all what you need. Check if values are changing from 1 (Up) to 0 (Down) when host goes offline.
