Most likely you don't have 'fping' installed, or the Zabbix server user does not have the ability to execute it.

In answer to your question though, yes, Zabbix works very well as a friendly pinger, simply set the item check delay to whatever you choose.

Certainly, you simply create a trigger against the ping item, create a map, add the host, then select the trigger you created for the ping.

simplification

can some simplification of zabbix to be done only todo this.
adding host is very long process
i have maki it work but i have to use only webinterface.
can i write host directly in DB
