    Update 1.8 to 1.8.1

    Hello,

I am sorry for this dummy question but, being a new Zabbix user, I really didn't manage to find a solution :

When the documentation says : "For change level releases only upgrading of server binary and frontend is required" What does it mean?

I understand how to update the database using the "patches", I get how to update the frontend by copying the php files where they belong. What I don't get is how to "update the binaries". Do I have to download the sources, run configure, make and make install an other time ? Won't it just re-install the new version over the old one?

Thanks a lot for your help and sorry again for the question

You got it. Make install will overwrite the older binaries. I've taken to simply renaming the old binaries prior to re-compiling. I append the old version number to them. Also stop your Zabbix processes before installing the new binaries.

I also compare the conf files (zabbix_agentd.conf, zabbix_server.conf, etc) between the old and new versions and see if anything new has been added.

      Ok thanks a lot!
Maybe it could be good idea to specify it in the documentation, so that other "new users" won't ask themselves the same question!

      Thanks again for your answer
