New user question:

I found in section 19.5 of the manual that you CAN do 'simple checks' without an agent. How does one implement a check against, say, port 80 using the PHP front end? If that is ALL I want to check do I need to creat a new group with just that test? When I configure the host what 'zabbix agent port' do I use considering there will be no 'zabbix' agent?

agent less checks are performed by the zabbix server itself.
if you need the checks to run from some other server or network you will have to have an agent run a custom script on a server on that network.
