Host Name vs Host DNS Name

Name - Unique host name.
DNS - Host DNS name if used.

Can someone clarify the difference between these two fields? I am thinking that Name can be any arbitrary string whereas DNS must be a valid FQDN. Is that correct?

Correct. The "Name" field which uses any unique name you wish, comes into play if you are using Zabbix Agent (Active) items.

The Active items rely on the unique name matching what is entered in the Zabbix frontend for that host.
