Can you start the server with Debug on level 4 and take the last 10 lines from the log?

That will help us to understand your error.

It could be.

But first I got to know what distro are you using and please check if the log is enabled at you server conf.

And let me know the last lines.

I'm using Ubuntu 9.04, Zabbix V1.8.1 and log is enabled. Last lines:
