how to determine wich template to use

    Hi all,

In our network we have a lot of switches, in single mode and in stack-mode.
I am able to get the right data via snmp to determine which switch is part of a stack (and how big the stack is) en which switch is in single mode.
But I'm having trouble combining the data to a single action so that I automatically link the right template to the switch.
In short; on the basis of two snmp values I want to link the discovered Cisco switch to the right template.
    Can anybody help me?

you could grab the snmp oid data that impacts your decision and use that as an action condition. problem might arise if you absolutely need to rely on two values for the decision - can't you determine the resulting template by stack size value ?

The problem is that we use different Cisco switches; 3750 with 24 ports, 3750 with 48 ports and the 3750 models with only gigabit ports.
So I use the OID that gives you the model name to determine what kind of a switch it is; total ports, FastEthernet or Gigabit and so on. The second OID I use is to check the stack status.
Maybe I could use just the second OID to determine the number of switches but I still need the type of switch to know the total number of ports... Oh man this is giving me a headache.

hmm, sounds complex indeed. i don't think there currently is a way to specify which returned value action condition should match - might make for a good feature request if you can't make it work otherwise

oh, another (hackish) possibility... snmpwalk/snmpget your switches, script list of parameters, generate xml and import it into zabbix

          Talking about complex!

I followed your suggestion and made a feature request; ZBXNEXT-298.
