ability to monitor specific process by CPU

Hello,

Can you please let me know how I can be able to monitor specific process by CPU usage? Ive got zabbix agent running on w2k3 Server and would like to be notified when a specific process hammers the system (for longer periods).

Ive been looking into UserParameter settings but so far no luck pulling this off. Is this a correct path or should I be looking into proc.num?

Ive got Zabbix 1.6 installed.

You're on the right track with userparameter.

Do a search on the forum for keyword: typeperf

That will show you how to get an output on your 2003 machine of supported performance counters. It should also pull up some examples of using perf counters.

In that list will be the syntax to use for any given process that is running when the typeperf list is generated. You would search that list for the name of the process you want to monitor. You can then basically monitor how the process hits the CPU in regards to idle, system, user time. You can then build a trigger for an alert along the lines of - if CPU user time > 75% for 5 minutes, alert me... or whatever thresholds you want to use.

Cool. If you need some help, let me know.
Another tip is to use an editor such as Notepad++ to do a search through typeperf, which will allow you to show all instances of a keyword you are searching for in a new window pane. That file is usually pretty huge.
