    How would I correct this?

Well, the first thing I noticed that my system time was set to local, however my php.ini time was set to GMT. So I made those both the same. Then I modified the zabbix_serverd.conf file and went from 3 StartPollers to 10. (not sure if that's what made the difference, but I recall reading it somewhere).

Let me know if that fixes your issue.

          Ok,

          My local time is correct.

I have "StartPollers=30" set as default.
But there is an option StartPingers, which I have set to 10 (There is no default)

I will let this run a bit and see what it does.

That seems to have done the job (for now)

Another thing I've noticed is I had another database running on that system as well that was really chewing up the CPU. I removed that database and it seemed my graphs were more consistent.

WRT the database, I have had to stop the house-keeping, else it can't cope with the amount of data it has to absorb. and then it has periods of time - hours - of blanks

                7000 Items (I don't believe it is a lot)
The database is on a 3GHz Quad Core Server with 8 GB RAM.
The data is stored on a RAID 1 volume.

                No other databases are running.

Sounds like its time to do some mysql tuning.

If values for some items comes to rarely (less then every 4 periods), but still some of them are in DB - ZABBIX shows them as dots (that is since ZABBIX 1.8.2).
