    SNMP, How?

    Ok, I was just ondering if there was anything I had toenable on a linux box to get the SNMP settings to work... I have snmpd started, however i do not know if agents are needed. If so, how do I enable them? This would be greatly appreciated. In a few months I will be trying to upgrade to 1.1B when I change my main servers.

    at my command line, I typed this:
    Code:
    snmpget -v1 -On -c 'purblic' 172.18.10.97 PowerNet-MIB::upsBasicBatteryStatus
    and I got back this
    Code:
    .0.1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.2.1.1.0 = INTEGER: batteryNormal(2)
    In items, I set up this
    Code:
    Descriptiont			Battery Status
    Host 				ups
    Type 				SNMPv1 agent
    SNMP community 			purblic
    SNMP OID 			.0.1.3.6.1.4.1.318.1.1.1.2.1.1.0
    SNMP port 			161
    Key 				bat_stat
    Units
    Multiplier
    Update interval (in sec) 	300
    Keep history (in days) 		365
    Status 				Monitored
    Type of information 		Numeric
    Store value			As is

      What exactly are you trying to do?

      if you want to find out what MIBs are running, just do a snmpwalk -v 1 -c (community string) (IP Address of remote server)

      It should walk the tree and spit out the results.

        Yes, i do the same.

        snmpwalk -v 2c -c <SNMP community string> <IP-Address or Hostname>

        For e.g. i got
        IF-MIB::ifInOctets.1 = Counter32: 36828411

        I place IF-MIB::ifInOctets.1 into OID and i works fantasic.

          Depends on what version SNMP you have running supports. Older routers only support version 1. Either way, just set up your SNMP host in Zabbix to store value as "Delta (Simple Change)" to get a good looking graph.
