Zabbix Active Check, some items will be updated some others not.

    Hi all,
during some tests with Zabbix, I've noticed problems with "zabbix agent active" items.
Zabbix server version 1.8.2, running on CentOS 5.4.
Zabbix Agentd version 1.8.2 (revision 11189), running on Microsoft Windows Server 2003 SP2.
Have linked the pre defined Windows Template to the Win 2003 Server Host.
Got data for ALL items within the defined intervals.
After changing all items (except "Host information" and "Version of zabbix agent(d) running") from Zabbix agent to Zabbix agent active, the data of some items are no longer updated.
    No longer updated items:
    • Memory free
    • Service Print Spooler
    • Disk space free on c:
    • Host uptime
    • ...
    Still updated items:
    • Processor Idle time
    • Disk average read queue length
    • Memory total
    • ....

Any help, ideas and suggestions are welcome.

    Regards
    Frank

This morning, I've restarted my Zabbix Server and saw ALL my "Zabbix agent active" items updated immeddiately. To get a feeling whether it was a one time situation or not, I've changed my items back to "Zabbix agent" and after a few minutes (ca. 5 min.) back again to "Zabbix agent active".
It took 9 minutes to get new data for all the items.
Utilization of both machines (Zabbix Server and Windows Server with agentd) is quite low.
    Any ideas?

Are you using a Zabbix proxy server, or are your hosts doing a direct connect to the Zabbix app server?

        Morning,
currently we do not use a proxy environment, we use direct connects from the agent to the zabbix server.

From here, the next thing that I would verify is that on the monitored host(s), you have a line that reads Hostname=xxxxxxxxx with x being whatever you want the server to be known to Zabbix as.

Then comapre that to what you have for the name of that server in Zabbix frontend. They must be a match, including the case. This is a requirement for Active checks to work.

"Hostname=" within zabbix_agentd.conf matches the name of the defined host 100%. I get data for the defined items so, as you stated, it must be equal.

Today I've checked again the behavior, noticed on saturday.

After switching items from zabbix_agent to zabbix agent (active) no data arrived at the server for round about 25 minutes.

The only action I've done was changing the item type, no zabbix server restart, no agentd restart. After ca. 25 min., the server suddenly got data.

Before I've started the test, I've changed the DebugLevel to 4.

              Here are the logs:
