    Upgrade procedure 1.6.5 --> 1.8.2 with a twist

Hi guy, I'd like to get your input on the best approach to upgrading our current ZABBIX server.

    Now:
    1.6.5
    MySQL backend

    After:
    1.8.2
    PostgresSQL

What do you guys think would be the best approach? I was thinking the best approach would be upgrade from 1.6.5 to 1.8.2 but also change to the new Postgres SQL backend.

    Thanks again for your insight.

    Hello!

    I've got another few questions:
    • Should I upgrade also zabbix proxy?
    • Is there changes in configuration files - should I use new ones from source and configure from beggining or is posible to use old ones?

    Best regards.
    Aivars.

Hi guys, I am wondering if I put this thread in the wrong section of the ZABBIX forums? Thought I'd have more replies by now

Back to my question, my main concern is how to handle the switch from MySQL to PostgreSQL.

Would it be easier to switch to DB on 1.6.5 and then perform the ZABBIX server upgrade, upgrade ZABBIX server first then switch the DB from MySQL to PostgreSQL. My last option is to start from scratch and setup a new ZABBIX server on 1.8.2 with a PostgreSQL and perform some kind of data export/import to maintain historical data, templates etc.

Aivars, I was just looking through the ZABBIX documentation for 1.8 and it specifically talks about the ZABBIX proxies. It says that older zabbix proxies of versions 1.6.x can't be used with zabbix 1.8 and should be upgraded. Please create your own thread instead of hijacking this one .. it gets too confusing when two questions are being asked in the same thread.

Well I found this thread: http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?p=37540

The thread talks about migrating to postgres from mysql but I'd still like to get the masters weigh in on this if possible.

        Thanks guys in advance!
