    Maitenance Periods

Does any documentation exist for these yet?

I just set one up, took down a webserver and got tonnes of alerts. Would like to know how/where I went wrong. Tks.

I just started using maintenance periods myself. I found that I have to put it in maintenance with "no data collection" for the alerts to not get sent.

Where do you see ""no data collection"?

Welcome. Just be careful when editing anything in there. I also found that when I edit something, the "end date" resets itself and the entire maintenance period goes into an "expired" state. Make sure you double check your end date.

Actually, "No data collection" is the functional equivalent of a disabled host, which is why no pages.

In order to prevent paging while in maintenance you need to add a check to your action:

            Maintenance status not in "maintenance"

It's one of the less obvious, but necessary, steps in setting up maintenance.

We have that option set for our Actions and don't get paged even though data is being actively collected.

              untergeek - good call.

Having just started messing around with maintenance periods, you're right, that was not an obvious option.

              Thanks.

                Thanks !

I thought that turning alerts were turned off in maintenance mode with automatic data collection. But it does not work as I expected.

Thank you untergeek for your post that made me understand what the manual does not explain yet.

                  You're welcome, bernard!

I am pretty sure I either found that out from someone else in the forums here, or stumbled upon the option when creating an Action. Whatever the case, it needs to be made more plain to end users who are trying to implement Zabbix.

Using 1.8.2, I setup a maintenance period with data collection. I then added a condition of Maintenance status not in "maintenance" (as an AND) to all of my actions. Unfortunately this did not work. The actions sent e-mails normally. Not sure what I missed.

                    Does anyone have any suggestions?

                    Thanks in advance.

Does your host appears in orange in your Dashboard?

Zabbix server does not see that the host is in maintenance.
Either the configuration of your maintenance is not correct, or update to version 1.8.3 ;-)

Thanks Bernard, I believe I did not configure the maintenance period properly. I have tested it since, and it now seems to work properly. As far as upgrading to 1.8.3, I am planning on it as soon as I can. The majority of my network interface monitors are not recording packets TX/RX, I have tested 1.8.3 in dev and it seems to fix the problem.

                              Bah!

I am running 1.8.3, and my hosts do appear in orange, and I also have the "not in maintenance" set n the action, and still email alerts get sent.

Is there any way to debug this?
