[total noob] Polling. With no zabbix agent?

    Dear all,

please enlighten me, while trying to read the manual, it seems that i need a zabbix client / agent (are they the same?) on the machines and switches that i need to monitor.

Qns is, am i able to poll bandwidth/ ultilization without having to create a zabbix agent on all the machines/nw equipment ??

I'm hoping to just poll from the main zabbix server to get the results.

    TIA

If all you want is cpu utilization and bandwidth you can do it with SNMP and don't need to install the agent at all. On Windows machines you'll need to make sure SNMP is installed, set up the community string and give it the IP address of your Zabbix server. To find the right parameters you can use snmpwalk from the command line on the Zabbix server to see what is available. It's even easier with a switch or router and also works fine on Linux boxes.

Look up snmpwalk and it will take you from there with no agent other than snmp, it comes with just about everything so you just have to enable it.
