last check status

I have a weird issue. the zabbix_server process is running, but w/the hours the "last check" status instead of refreshing every minute, it delays the refresh w/the time. I need to restart the zabbix_server, and it starts refreshing every minute again, but w/the hrs, this refresh delays.
W/this problem, I think thats why I am getting delay alerts (triggers) as well.
Please any ideas?

Also, when I stop the zabbix_server I get this info [zabbix_server] <defunct>

could it be related w/ this alert i'm starting to receive?

Which database server are you using? Do you see any problems in it's log files that indicate something is wrong? Is the database maybe to heavily used and does it get behind fro that reason? Just guessing here...
