    Zabbix global documentation

    Hello,

Is there documentation about deploying of Zabbix in different senario's?

All I could find is detailed documentation about the configuration options but I have no clue (yet) what would be good global setups to deploy zabbix.

Things I would like to know for example is, how does the agent work.

Can I make the agent connect to the server in case the agent it self is unreachable for the outside world?

Can I switch to distributed monitoring later?

What are good strageties for template creation?
I have a feeling I should make many small single purpose templates and link all these to an other template and lijnk this template to a server group.

    Regards

Nothing besides the wiki actually: http://www.zabbix.com/documentation/

These forums give good answers if your questions are specific enough. IRC will give you answers as well, although there's less active people there sometimes.

That's a bit of a blanket question. What do you wanna know exactly?

Not sure wether I understand you correctly, but if you use active items to monitor your servers the clients will initiate contact. You can use the zabbix proxy to route through a specific place in your network if you want.

Yes, you can. I don't recommend the node setup though, my experiences with it have been less then stellar.

Depends a bit on what your needs are. If you expect to monitor a huge number of servers (1000+), be conservative about what you put in your templates. Use macro's wherever possible. Try to stick with zabbix active items if you think you'll have high number of servers.

It makes sense to create templates for specific functions, yes. You can link those to hostgroups then.

      Hi,

      Thank you for your reply.

I got a proxy setup working all though I had to reinstall de database.

I made the mistake to run zabbix_server -n 2 to times. After that I could not login, so I changed the userid in the zabbix database back to 1 (it was changed to a 808000000000000001 id) and login now worked but I got cannot read config messages. Anyway I am happy this happend now and not later on.

I think I am beginning to understand how zabbix works.

      Thx again.
