How to SNMP Monitoring under Zabbix 1.8.x

    Hi

Im looking around for description, where i can setup the snmp option under Zabbix 1.8.x.
I have added some Windows 2003 Server, and add SNMP V2 Template for one Server (testing), but they dont create any network-graphic.
With the freeware tool "Paessler snmp-tester" - i recieve a lot of snmp oid´s.
If i use snmpwalk 1xx.x.x.x public for zabbix console, i didnt recieve anything.

What have i to do, to enable successful the snmp feature ?
Im Looking also for "how to change the community string und Zabbix 1.8.x"
Exist also a description "how to enable snmp feature by any Linux Clients/Server ?"

    thanks
    Greeting Jochen

Please try below command from command line:

    snmpwalk -c <Community String> -v 2c <Host IP> <OID>

Make sure you are allowed to poll the information with the provided community string.

"how to change the community string und Zabbix 1.8.x"
    Goto--> configuration --> Host --> Template --> item

While you edit the snmp item thier is field with the name SNMP community

I have added some Windows 2003 Server, and add SNMP V2 Template for one Server (testing), but they dont create any network-graphic.
Check whether you are able to collect the data. If data is not available what it will plot.

"how to enable snmp feature by any Linux Clients/Server ?"
For enabling the snmp you required an root permission.
Edit file: /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf and add the line:

    rocommunity <community string>

    Then restart the snmpd service:

    /etc/init.d/snmpd restart

    Thanks

      Hello,

I added a new community like you recommend above:

      # echo "rocommunity yyyy zz" >> /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf

      I restared snmpd agent.

I tried to reach a new device running:

      # snmpwalk -v1 x.x.x.x -c 'yyyy zz'
      Timeout: No Response from x.x.x.x

I have others devices in the same sub-net with public community and I can reach them without any problem.

Any thought? How can I fix this issue?

      Thanks in advance.

          Thanks for the reply.

Telnet it was my first try, but it is not enabled.

As telnet is not available between those network, I can't check if the port is listen correctly.

I have switches where is working properly SNMP monitoring and telnet is not working either....

              Hi Zubbu,

Really, I have almost default /etc/snmp/snmpd.conf. I am attaching the file here. I added at the end our community.

I am trying to connect against a SW Brocade is not a server.

                Hi.

You have rules limited to only system view.

                To view full subtree:

                SNMP configuration examples
                Default settings
You can view only systemview subtree .1.3.6.1.2.1.1
                View whole subtree
                1. Change lines as follows:
                Current lines:
                view systemview included .1.2.6.1.2.1.1
                view systemview included .1.3.6.1.2.1.25.1.1
                Add line:
                view all included .1
                Change line:
access notConfigGroup “” any noauth exact systemview none none
                To:
access notConfigGroup “” any noauth exact all none none
                2. Save the file.
                3. Restart the service:
                # service snmpd restart
Change community string (default is “public”)
                Change line:
                com2sec notConfigUser default public
                To:
                com2sec notConfigUser default anything_you_need

Have you verified SNMP is configured on your Brocade switch?
Be sure you use the community string configured on the Brocade switch, and the correct version configured

                    zabbix-server# snmpwalk -v [2c | 1 ] -c <brocade's community string> <brocade ip>

                    Hope this helps.

SNMP is UDP, telnet is TCP, so this will not test SNMP.

                          I am lost

Now I have set up the community correctly. If I run the command "snmpwalk -v 1 -c "My comm" x.x.x.x" I got a reply.

Anyway, I enabled the switch into Zabbix and I can't collect the status.

                          Any idea why?

                          Thx!!

                            Weird situation

                            If I run the command : #snmpwalk -v 2c -c "My Community" x.x.x.x
I receive the list of OID available to this Switch.

If I enable this device into the Zbx GUI, I receive "Timeout while connecting to: [x.x.x.x:161].

Telnet is not responding. But we have another SW brocade and Zabbix can monitor them without issues.

                            Any suggestion?
