How do I change the name of my Zabbix server

I know it will be around somewhere but to date I can find it.

I have used the 1.8.3 Virtual Applciance and have started setting it up, now I'm up to giving the server a meaningful name for our network.

I can't seem to find where in this version of Linux I change name of the server A lot of post for Linux in gernal talk about a hostnames file but this verson doesn't seem to have one.

I have tried editing the etc/host file by typing in the IP of my applicance and the name I would like it to have. AFter a reboot the prompt is showing the new name but no other computers are resloving to it (i.e can ping via name).


Where and how can I change the name of my Zabbix server?

A page to a manual is fine or even a hyperlink to another thread as I haven't been able to find one yet.

Depends on what the base distro is. If it's SuSE try editing /etc/HOSTNAME. Though that really only changes the hostname of the machine when you log into it. Nothing you do on the machine will change it's name when you connect to it over the network, that's your DNS server.

I found the answer in SuSE, it was to use YaST. This changed the Hostname but also cause the wbpage to stop working as the server name had changed

Gone to building this on a Ubuntu server and not using a VMDK
