simple upgrade to 1.8.3 from 1.8.2

    Hi,

    i have seen this post -> http://www.zabbix.com/forum/showthread.php?t=16540

Is this the same way how to update zabbix to 1.8.3? Or is there another better way?

Why there is no update function for zabbix in the frontend?

    Thanks

Yes, same procedure. Although, I would definitely make backup copies of my 1.8.2 binaries and the entire 1.8.2 frontend in case there were issues, you could easily revert to 1.8.2

I would do something like this for the frontend, which also moves zabbix.conf.php back into play.

Backup old front-end files, as root:

    cd /var/www
    mv html html.1.8.2

    mkdir /var/www/html
    cp -R /zabbix-1.8.3/frontends/php/* /var/www/html/
    cp /var/www/html.1.8.2/conf/zabbix.conf.php /var/www/html/conf

With the Zabbix processes stopped and before you compile the new binaries...

cd <dir where your binaries are>
        mv zabbix_server zabbix_server_182
        mv zabbix_agentd zabbix_agentd_182
        mv zabbix_get zabbix_get_182
        mv zabbix_sender zabbix_sender_182

Then after you install 1.8.3, if you run into any problems where you have to revert back to 1.8.2, you just reverse the entire process and mv the /var/www/html folder to something like /var/www/html_183 and mv the var/www/html_182 folder back to /var/www/html and do the same for the binaries.
