Graphs show scattered points

Which is your polling interval?, how is your zabbix queue?, do you have zabbix gui, zabbix server and db on the same host?, which is your io ratio?.

Polling intervals for the majority of my items are either 60 or 90 seconds.
I use all passive items.
Using active items has been known to help with better graphing
More than likely dots on graphs is a symptom of a DB that needs tuning.

As for my queue, I am only concerned with items that fall into the "More than 10 minutes" category, and it is at an acceptable level. The items that are in there are items that I am aware of and would expect to be there.

For anyone still bothered by this, apparently a fix is coming in 1.8.4. Basically if you have lots of unreachable hosts, Zabbix performance goes to hell. See this bug report for details on how to fix, you have to add a new item in zabbix_server.conf and zabbix_proxy.conf: https://support.zabbix.com/browse/ZBX-3025
