How can I configure agent to use UDP?

Many installation manuals contain the following setting string added to the /etc/services:
zabbix-agent 10050/udp Zabbix Agent

But how can I configure agent to use UDP? I want to minimize the overhead of thousands of values submitted to the server. Is it possible in the Zabbix 1.8.x . Can zabbix trapper be configured with the UDP too?

nope, udp is not supported. to reduce network overhead, try using active zabbix agent items as much as possible, maybe also consider zabbix proxies

This option can be useful for retrieval of a big amount of non-critical data for statistics. Closing as not implemented.
