Auto/Scripted Imports

I am looking to script from the command line importing of templates and hosts. Also, looking to figure out how to verify if templates and/or hosts exist before importing.

Is there a way to do this natively with zabbix commands, or would this need to be done with mysql queries and inserts?

Bump-- I am also looking for this same functionality. In lieu of using the API to add hosts from a list of servers in a database, I have a script to generate an XML file for import. Would like to have it imported automatically.
