    New to Zabbix

    Hi Everyone,

    I am new to Zabbix and I have a system (configured by someone else) that monitors some 20 servers.

    My question is I want to accoicate a certain action with a specific server not for all servers.

    To be more precise I want an email to be sent if the trigger is set for only one specific server, in my actions tab I have only one action that applies to all server. I am not sure how to link this action with a specific server.

    For example if a problem persists for more than 3 minutes in serverA I want an email but if the same problem persists for 5 minutes in serverB then I would like the email to be sent.

    Another question is: how are time intervals counted for actions. for example if the trigger is set for 1 minutes then changes back to Ok then changes back to Problem after a while for another minute, will this count totaly as two minutes. or is the counter for the action reset??

    Thanks.

    May be you could have one action per host group, or per trigger, or per host.

    Escalations is what you need.

    You have to know the differences between the time intervals on trigger and actions.
    Time intervals in actions start when trigger is TRUE or PROBLEM and when trigger is back to FALSE or OK time intervals are restarted.

        I'll give you an example for an action per host group:

        Action Name: Tomcat Alerts
        Action Conditions: (A) AND (B) AND (C) AND (D)
        (A) Host group = "Tomcat Servers"
        (B) Trigger severity >= "High"
        (C) Trigger value = "PROBLEM"
        (D) Maintenance status not in "maintenance"
        Action Operations:
        Send message to Group "Tomcat Admins"

        An example for an action per host:

        Action Name: Mordor Alerts
        Action Conditions: (A) AND (B) AND (C) AND (D)
        (A) Host = "Mordor"
        (B) Trigger severity >= "High"
        (C) Trigger value = "PROBLEM"
        (D) Maintenance status not in "maintenance"
        Action Operations:
        Send message to Group "Mordor Admins"

        An example for an action per trigger:

        Action Name: CPU Alerts
        Action Conditions: (A) AND (B) AND (C) AND (D)
        (A) Trigger = "High Cpu"
        (B) Trigger severity >= "High"
        (C) Trigger value = "PROBLEM"
        (D) Maintenance status not in "maintenance"
        Action Operations:
        Send message to Group "Hardware Admins"
        978 Hosts / 16.901 Items / 8.703 Triggers / 44 usr / 90,59 nvps / v1.8.15

          Thanks this information was very useful and it was not very clear in the Manuals, you clarified a lot for me.

          One last thing I would like to understand if possible:

          Under the Action page there is a check box called

          Escalations

          By ticking this check box I get a field called

          Period (seconds)

          Mine is set to 300, does this mean when my conditions match for a period of 300 seconds it will initiate the action and fire the alarm.

          Best Regards

            That's for enabling escalations, take a look at:

            http://www.zabbix.com/documentation/..._notifications

            Mainly it means that you can do extra operations (remote commands or send message) depending on the time it has passed after the trigger changed from OK to PROBLEM.

              Thanks

              The link you gave me explanis everything, I have been looking into the Zabbix 1.6 pdf manual and things are not so understandable in it.

              Any way I think all I need is perfectly explained and thanks again for your help.
