How to ping an IP without having to install zabbix_aget

    Dear all,

I can add hosts to zabbix and get event or report log after having installed zabbix_agent on agent machine. How about if I want only to ping specific website or IP, in that case there is no Agent software to be installed on remove machine, How can I add hosts for getting ping report only?

    Thanks

    Hi,

No need to install anything on remote host if you just want to ping it.

Zabbix "simple checks" are used to check network connectivity on remote hosts.

For ping, you just have to define an item with type "simple check" and key "icmpping".

Check the manual for details: http://www.zabbix.com/documentation/...#simple_checks

thanks for the link you send, but it looks a bit complicated for me. I just need to ping remote host and get alerted if destination down, without installing agent or using SNMP on remote host.

There are too many links about ICMP, do you know an easy one?
