    Pushing alerts in Zabbix

I am somewhat new to Zabbix. I've inherited the installation from someone else and I am trying to integrate more and more things into it. I've had experience with Big Brother, Hawk, Nagios and other platforms but not Zabbix.

I've rolled out Splunk to capture and process a lot of logs. Splunk can search on schedule and alert if it finds an "error" in your log output. It can email an alert or run a script.

Would there be a way to use one of these two mechanism to "trigger" an alert in Zabbix?

I've seen a lot of ways Zabbix can collect all kinds of information but there seem to be no sort of "passive" mode where alerts can pushed by external components.

    Any ideas?

There is, you can look into 'active checks' or you might consider using simple event correlator, combined with zabbix_sender. Just use our friend Google on these topics

      Hi,

You can set an item of type "Zabbix trapper" and use zabbix_sender to feed it with Splunk messages.

If you want to raise an alert, you have to also set a trigger on that item.
