Triple SMS

Hello,

I'm having trouble sending SMS using a Huawei E1752 GSM modem.
Well actually it is working quite well, the problem is that every notification I receive is send out three times.

I have configured the Media type SMS to use /dev/ttyUSB0

Have anyone else experienced this issue?

you probably have overlapped Action conditions.
You must make sure each Action filters a unique events subset.

Thanks for your reply.

That was also my first thought.
But I have created one action with 1 operation.
First I configured it to send me an email - works great, I receive 1 email when a trigger is activated. Next I switched the operation to send me an SMS instead, then I receive 3 sms'es for each trigger.

I have also tried to delete the action, and re-create it under a different name and such.

From what I see here, you have an Action defined with no conditions.

You need at least the following condition:

Trigger value = "PROBLEM"

In this way, the action is only executed when a trigger is live. This multiple-trigger effect is amply documented in these forums, as is the solution I have detailed.

You may also wish to consider escalations, which can result in repeat notifications at a user-defined interval (until acknowledged, if so configured).

I just added the condition as you have described

Conditions (A) Trigger value = "PROBLEM" 

But unfortunately I still receive three sms for each trigger.
Also if it was a trigger configuration issue, I guess I should also have received three emails, when just using the email operation.

You are correct. Perhaps it is an SMS thing.

If this action is set to email, it only sends 1? Did I understand you correctly?

If it does, then it points the blame at the SMS code or device or something in between.

Yes exactly, I just re-tested again setting the operation to only send an email. Only 1 email received.

Would you suggest a bug report, or can I do any further testing before?

Sounds like it ought to be escalated. I'm not sure if it's in the device driver or zabbix or a combination of both, but it's clearly not working properly and the dev team should know about it.

I have just tried sending an sms with gammu, like

echo "testing 1 2 3" | gammu sendsms text <phonenumber>

Only one sms is sent out.

I'll file a bug report for it.

Any news on this issue?

I'm also experiencing the sam problem. Using the same trigger and action I will receive 1 email and 3 sms's

Zabbix 1.8.1
Hosted on Centos 5.5
Huawei E220

Checking the notifications section of zabbix it says that it's just sent the 1 sms.

I can also test the gsm modem by using AT commands using gsmsendsms and it will send a single message.

Help would be greatly appreciated.

I just did an upgrade to 1.8.4, still same issue.

Does anyone have a work around?

I've implemented zabbix to replace our current monitoring solution but this is really holding back full deployment.

I'm testing this on a simple trigger set to go off when no ping data is received for a test host.

The email alert works perfect - get a single email, but 3 x sms's

I've noticed on the dash board under current last 20 issues, the action for the trigger says "not sent". Whereas the email action gets sent.

Could this be zabbix not picking up the fact it's been sent and attempting to send again?
