    Zabbix Install

    Hi,
    I am desperate to find a solution to my problem.
    My goal is to install Zabbix 1.8.3 on a Virtual Box. (OS Ubuntu)
    But I can not achieve anything, it made the hours I am wracking my head without results. (really since 9am)
    So i m novice on Ubuntu :-/
    I wonder if there is a tutorial or someone who can help me in my quest for success
    Thanks

    Perhaps if you start with a shot description of one of your problems someone can help you from there.

    Also have you read through the Manual? I would suggest that first as most often you will be referred there.

      Ok, My OS is Ubuntu.
      In fact, i must install Zabbix 1.8.3 on Virtual Box. I had download the appliance zabbix_x86.i686-1.8.3.vmx.tar.gz.
      Next i have two files with reading archive in Zabbix_x86-1.8.3.
      (Zabbix_x86.i686-1.8.3.vmdk & Zabbix_x86.i686-1.8.3.vmx)

      I don't know what to do next...
      I checked the manual without to resolve this issue.
      Without Vbox, i managed to install Zabbix 1.8.2 but now i must to use virtual box (os ubuntu) and zabbix 1.8.3.

      I don't know if i am very precise in my words...

      thanks

          You say you have the vmx and vmdk files. Simply open the vmx file with Virtual box (like loading a word document or similar) and point it to the hard disk file (vmdk) and it should appear as a machine. Simply power on and go!

            Thanks... I m very confused...

            I open the vmx
            #!/usr/bin/env vmware
            config.version = "8"
            tools.syncTime = "true"
            uuid.action = "create"
            virtualHW.version = "4"
            displayName = "Zabbix_x86.i686-1.8.3"
            memsize = "512"
            guestOS = "suse"
            scsi0.present = "true"
            scsi0.sharedBus = "none"
            scsi0.virtualDev = "lsilogic"
            scsi0:0.present = "true"
            scsi0:0.fileName = "Zabbix_x86.i686-1.8.3.vmdk"
            scsi0:0.deviceType = "scsi-hardDisk"
            ethernet0.present = "true"
            ethernet0.addressType = "generated"
            ethernet0.virtualDev = "e1000"
            ethernet0.connectionType = "bridged"
            usb.present = "true"
            priority.grabbed = "normal"
            priority.ungrabbed = "normal"
            powerType.powerOff = "soft"
            powerType.powerOn = "soft"
            powerType.suspend = "soft"
            powerType.reset = "soft"
            I must open when i m on virtual box?
            I think i don't know what i do...

              Yes, almost. Load Virtualbox then choose to open a VM (I cant remember exactly the words it uses, but it will be the equivalent of load or import). It should be looking for a VMX file, this describes the machine you are trying to load. so, you just really need to load Virtualbox, choose to load a VM, then pick that file. After that, it should be there as a machine in virtualbox.

                If I understand correctly, it must import from virtualbox. It is not necessary to connect a Ubuntu virtual machine type.
                VMX load zabbix directly by VM?
                I'm testing.

                It's Ok! Thanks for all!
                I feel ridiculous for not found before

                So i search now, the solution to find

                how configure :
                Ip adress not obtained, Zabbix not accessible"

                  Good job! It looks like you dont have a DHCP server on your network. If you are sure you do, make sure that your VM has a network card assigned and enabled. If it is not active it will not be able to get an address.

                  If that is okay you will need to assign one manually. This page should help

                  Then reboot the VM by typing restart at the command prompt. Though not sure if this is true in SuSE linux...
