1.8.3/1.8.3 Multiple Templates for Host - not seeing all items

I have an AIX 5.3 host on which I want to monitor CPU iowait.

The Template_AIX template has a check for iowait but doesn't work (only reports zeros) so I disabled all CPU checks in Template_AIX and added the Template_AIX_stats_18 template to the AIX host so I could use the CPU metrics from that template (i.e., the AIX host is now linked to both templates).

But when I go to "Monitoring -> Latest data", I don't see any items from the Template_AIX_stats_18 template - only items from the Template_AIX template.

Is this the wrong way to do what I'm trying to do?

I've checked all the old posts regarding the same issue but nothing helped.

I'm running 1.8.3 server on RedHat and 1.8.3 [downloaded] agentd on AIX 5.3.

I think the process I'm following is correct. But here's some additional info.

On the host I'm trying to get the cpu info from, the agentd log file shows:

    7315632:20110105:140818.318 zabbix_agentd active check started [101.64.24.10:10051]

So all looks good here - active checks are being run.

    But when I do this:

    # /usr/local/sbin/zabbix_agentd -t system.stat[cpu,wa]

    The result is:

    system.stat[] [m|Collector is not started!]
