Is it possible to monitor and be alerted when someone plugs a device into our network? We are trying to make sure no one is bringing devices from home and plugging them into the network. Is this possible with snmp/zabbix?

Sure. Google ifAdminStatus and ifOperStatus and then figure out if your access devices support these MIBs. Also, depending on your switch(es)/router(s)/etc., you can probably also generate a trap on port state change. Is it possible to monitor and be alerted when someone plugs a device into our network? -
You can monitor the SNMP OperStatus (IF-MIB::ifOperStatus["index","ifDescr","Ethernet0"]), but you will have to create an item for each port.
You can create a trigger for when OperStatus changes to Up.
However, this does mean that you will get an alert every time a PC is switched on. So in the morning you may get flooded with alerts when people arrive at work.
Alternatively, depending on your switches, you can enable security on the switch to limit what MAC address can access what port. An administrative nightmare tho.Comment
