API support for Inventory items - help to contribute

Hi,

I'd like to use the JSON API to retrieve some information stored as inventory elements in Zabbix, but it seemed not to be implemented some time ago:

Can somebody tell the status of this?

If it isn't already implemented, I'd like to study the possibility of contributing with a patch before 'attacking' the DB directly to retrieve the data.

Progress on this

Is there any progress on this yet?

This would be usefull to add stuff like backup-location, rack-locaton, and then generate some kind of report with the API, based on the information stored in inventory.
