    Identify bandwidth hog

    Hi all

I am trying to determine if zabbix can be used to identify a potential bandwidth hog down to a specific windows server on our network. At present we use mrtg to determine which part of our wan is slow then log on to the cisco router on that particular segment to enable ip accounting. This will usually give us an ip address of the server to then go and investigate which process is the cause of the unwanted excess traffic. This is a manual process and requires a degree of timing to catch it in the act.

We only have 512K links to our remote sites so when a server start pushing or pulling data over it during the day, it causes our users a lot of pain. Unfortunately upgrading our links is not an option as we are a non for profit.

Is there a way that zabbix could identify a rouge windows server and the process and alert via email?

    Hi,

Zabbix is perfect to detect when router bandwidth is saturated and send an alert.
However, if you want bandwidth usage by IP and port, ntop is probably a much more appropriate tool.
