    Win98 monitoring

I'm trying to keep track of a whole bunch of Windows workstations and servers, including Win98 workstations.

Can anyone tell me what the Zabbix server can learn about the Win98 machines? For example, can I ping them?

As far as I can tell the zabbix agent can't be installed on Win98, but so far I haven't seen anything that says explicitly whether this is true or not. I'm trying to RTFM, but there is a lot to go through ;-)

Any help (or manual section numbers) would be most welcome. Thanks in advance

    Yes, of course.
At least, all simple checks should work.

    Hope this helps,

      Thanks.
I'm not entirely sure if I understand how to do this yet, but I'll be sure to ask if I get stuck

        As an easy start:
        • create an host
        • define its IP address
        • link it to Template_Standalone
        • Save

In Monitoring/Latest data, you should see collected data.

        Hope this helps,
        JBo

          You can test it
Download old windows binaries http://www.zabbix.com/download2.php and use 32bit agent.

I monitore few Windows NT4 Servers with agent version 1.1 and 1.4.4.

It should work under Windows 98.

          Good luck!

Agent 1.1 requires PDH.DLL, which was never part of Win98, only NT onwards, so that doesn't work. The ping monitoring is about as much as I can expect from Win98, so I'm not worried about that.

I don't have any WinNT servers, only Win2000 and Linux/SAMBA

So, Windows98 doesn't support Zabbix agent...
But, many simple tests exist (check manual)

You can also monitor with SNMP ....

              Regards,
